Mashuphead: Radiohead remixet

Det måtte ske. Det var faktisk på tide. Som gammel Radiohead-fan har jeg ventet og håbet at Radiohead - et ellers såkaldt "progressivt band" - springer helhjertet med på remixkultur-bølgen og tog et stort skridt mod nye distributionsformer og mere direkte kontakt med deres fans. Såvidt jeg ved udløb deres kontrakt med EMI /Parlophone efter "Hail to the Thief", hvilket - mere end nogle andre - giver Radiohead chancen for at blive pionerer i at interagere direkte med deres fans. De har de mest loyale, kreative og engagerede fans et band kan ønske sig (se min artikel om radiohead-fans: 1 2 3 4 5), og har adskillige gange prøvet at lave innovative, men småforsigtige projekter af denne art.
Men nu er Oxford-drengene blevet bastard-remixet på ialt 16 spor af kunstnere som MF Doom, Jurassic 5, De La Soul mfl med DJ Panzah Zandahz ved roret. Zandahz har tidligere har udgivet et radiohead-beats DJ-kit til samme formål. Albummet er sjovt - især all-time klassikeren Creep sunget af macintosh-text to speech programmets Fred - og til tider ganske vellykket. Men ikke helt there.

The album starts off with the scorpio-fused breakbeat work-out “Everything in Its Wrong Place” & progresses in to a warped version of Cut Chemist’s Litmus Test remix of Gab’s “Chemical alisthenics.” (...) The CD gets down-right weird when PZ covers “Creep” (the most covered RH song, PERIOD) featuring a robotic like-ness of Fred (its kind of a stretch) from “Fitter Happier.” Chord Organs, theremins, they are all there. (...) Two “Hail to Thief” Native Tongue remixes are next on the list & De La’s “Itsoweezee” becomes a completely different animal. An instrumental of PZ’s re-worked “No Suprises” ends off the originals set (..) PZ describes the album as “nothing to be taken too seriously, it was just a lot of fun to make & I hope that you have fun listening to it.” CD length is 42 minutes and there’s also a 7″ vinyl available with remixes of My Iron Lung and Wicked Child.
